First11 contributes in supporting Happy Feet Youth Project

How we donated over a hundred football shirts to support children in Langa, South Africa.

First11 contributes in supporting Happy Feet Youth Project - First11

First11 was built around a love for football shirts. But every now and then, something comes along that reminds you those shirts can mean more than a collection. This is one of those moments.

How It Started

Back in December, we were selling at Sneakerness Amsterdam when we met Toon Verplancke, the Manager of Café Baskèts, who was running a coffee stand there. We struck up a great conversation and exchanged contact details.

A few weeks later, Toon reached out with an inspiring idea. He was planning a visit to friends in Langa, South Africa, who run a foundation supporting local communities. He asked if we would like to contribute to one of their initiatives: the Happy Feet Youth Project.

Their mission is to improve educational opportunities and promote healthy lifestyles for children in the community. They aim to provide scholarships so all Happy Feet members can attend quality schools, as well as offer daily healthy meals to more than 150 children living near the Happy Feet training garage.

In addition, they want to create opportunities for the children to attend events, perform, and take part in outings and travel. These experiences help broaden their world view and give them positive ways to express themselves.

A Hundred Shirts to South Africa

We didn't hesitate. We collected over 100 football shirts from our stock and shipped them to Toon. He brought them to South Africa and surprised the children with the jerseys.

Unfortunately, we couldn't be there in person, but seeing the kids' reactions put huge smiles on our faces. What may seem small to us can mean the world to them. Every child was able to choose a shirt they loved.

We're incredibly grateful to Toon and everyone involved in the Happy Feet Youth Project for the amazing work they continue to do. Initiatives like this remind us why community matters. We're proud to have played a small part and hope to support many more moments like this in the future.
