The most legendary moment in Danish football history remains the victory at UEFA Euro 1992. Denmark had not originally qualified for the tournament but was invited at the last moment and went on to win the entire competition. In the final, Denmark defeated Germany 2–0. Players such as Peter Schmeichel and Brian Laudrup became national heroes during that tournament, and their shirts are still among the most recognizable in Danish football history.

Later generations have also kept Denmark on the international stage. Players such as Christian Eriksen, Kasper Schmeichel and Nicklas Bendtner represented the national team at various European Championships and World Cups. During UEFA Euro 2020, Denmark received worldwide support when the team, after the incident involving Eriksen, went on to have an impressive tournament and reached the semi finals.
